Making Renewable Energy in London a REALity
The overall aim of the REAL project is to drive the development
of new community renewable energy projects in London to completion,
reducing the impact on the environment and growing the market for
renewable energy technologies.
This will be achieved through meeting the following objectives:
- Raise awareness of and increase receptiveness to renewable energy
by community groups through the installation, demonstration and
dissemination of PV installations at two Youth Hostels.
- Provide educational services to build knowledge of renewable
energy and inspire visiting and other relevant community groups,
increasing their understanding of renewable energy and motivating
them to begin to develop new renewable energy projects.
- Empower communities with support services, building their capacity
and facilitating them in the development of new renewable energy
projects, providing support to communities accessing grants and
driving new renewable energy projects to completion.
- Incorporate energy efficiency education, training and support
for installations in order to maximise the impact of any new installations.
The project will support community scale renewable energy technologies,
such as:
- Community scale wood fuel boilers
- Photovoltaic systems
- Solar hot water installations
- Small scale wind turbines
- Ground source heat pumps
Communities made up of individual households will be supported
with domestic scale solar hot water systems, photovoltaic systems
and wood fuel heating systems.
