You can use this checklist to see if your home would
be suitable for a solar installation. Alternatively, you can call
our energy advisors on 020 8683 6683 and they will go through these
issues with you.
- Do you have at least three square metres of unshaded, southeast
to southwest facing roof space? - Larger households will need
4 sqaure metres.
- Is your home three stories or less high? Higher houses are of
course possible but additional costs are likely, because of the
added complication of installation.
- Is your south facing roof on the front or the back of the house?
If it is on the front, you are much more likely to need to apply
for planning permission. If the panels are on a flat roof then
you may well need to apply for planning permission. In all cases,
we recommend you check with your local authority, and if your
home is a listed building or in a conservation area then getting
permission may be difficult.
- Do you have a combi boiler? If you do, would you be willing
to have a hot water tank installed? There are some additional
costs associated with installation with a combi boiler and installation
will not always be possible or advisable, the surveyor will need
to check this with you.
- Do you have enough room for the new hot water tank? When solar
panels are installed, we replace your current hot water tank with
a twin coil tank. This tank may be larger than your existing one.
Most problems can be overcome, and we will work with you to ensure
that installation is as hassle-free as possible.
