Free Training on Sustainable Energy for Kent Local Planning Authorities
June and July 2005, held 'in house' at local authority offices by arrangement

Supported by:

Renewable energy is becoming a topic that planners need to have increased understanding of. With the publication of Planning Policy Statement 22 (PPS 22) on renewable energy, and the development of regional and local policy promoting renewable energy use, training for planning officers is essential.

CEN through the The Kent Energy Centre (KEC) has received funding from the Energy Saving Trust to develop training on sustainable energy specifically for Kent local planning authorities. The training will be aimed at both policy and development control officers, in 3 hour sessions held 'in house' at the local authority offices, ensuring that local issues can be fully discussed.

Free Training on Sustainable Energy for Kent Local Planning Authorities
June and July 2005, held 'in house' at local authority offices by arrangement

Renewable energy, like many other subjects, is becoming a topic that planners need to have an understanding of. With the publication of Planning Policy Statement 22 (PPS 22) on renewable energy, and the development of regional and local policy promoting the use of renewable energy, training for planning officers is essential.

The Kent Energy Centre (KEC) has received funding from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) to develop training on sustainable energy specifically for Kent local planning authorities. Delivery of the training will take place during June and July 2005 and will be aimed at both policy and development control officers. The training session is 3 hours in length and will be held 'in house' at your local authority offices, ensuring that local issues can be fully discussed.

The training will cover a number of key energy topics:

  • The need for sustainable energy
  • The policy drivers for sustainable energy (national, regional and local)
  • Energy efficient design and technologies
  • Renewable energy technologies
  • How to integrate renewable energy through planning

The training is in presentation and workshop form, with the workshop element addressing the following practical considerations:

  • What forms of renewable energy are suitable for integration with which building types?
  • What are the typical costs and carbon savings associated with the various renewable energy technologies?
  • How can developer concerns about renewable energy be addressed?
  • How can renewable energy directly benefit the developer?
  • What knowldge is required by planning officers in order to assess a developers renewable energy proposal?

The KEC is now coordinating bookings for the sessions. To arrange your session or for further information, please contact Wendy Ellis by email or telephone.
