Energy Efficiency - Carbon Management

Effective carbon management means controlling and reducing carbon emissions through the efficient management of energy use, use of low carbon technologies such as combined heat and power and renewable energy , design and use of sustainable buildings, and the implementation of sustainable transport strategies.

Government policy is encouraging business and local authorities to invest in energy efficiency measures as a key way of tackling climate change and CEN’s Business Sense program can provide support in the following areas:

  • Site Energy Reviews – of Corporate/Housing/Schools stock to identify and quantify energy saving measures and paybacks
  • Prioritising of reports on basis of financial payback and carbon savings
  • Access to Business Sense Installer Network to ensure measures are implemented
  • Support with awareness campaigns amongst employees

Business Sense carried out energy reviews on 18 sites including Libraries, Schools, Council Offices and Sports Centres. Total Energy Spend of the sites was just over £300,000 per annum. Savings of around £54,000 (18%) were identified. Cost of measures were £43,000 giving a 10month payback. Carbon savings equate to around 670,000kg CO2. Installing an automated pool cover will pay for itself in 15months
