Christmas is over and we're starting to count
the cost as the bills start arriving (sharp intake of breath!).
Rather than bracing yourself for the post (or indeed for the
cold weather), why not make a difference to your cash flow
for many years to come? There are many simple ways to keep
your fuel bills down, all without the hassle of switching
gas or electricity supplier. Your local Energy Efficiency
Advice Centre holds the answers to keeping your home warm
at an affordable cost.
If escalating fuel bills are giving you a chill,
then a call to your local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre
on FREEPHONE 0800 512012 is just the thing. They provide FREE
impartial and expert advice on how to save energy in the home.
Some things are simple, like having a shower instead of a
bath - getting into good energy habits is something the whole
family can do. Others are a little more involved but will
make a bigger difference and you'll see the benefits for longer.
"Heating and insulation are two halves of the same coin.
Providing heat is only half the story - you've got to make
sure that heat stays indoors and doesn't leak out - that's
where insulation comes in," said Centre Manager, Tracey
Mills. "Many people only have four inches (100mm) of
loft insulation, but the recommended depth is 10.5 inches
(270mm) to keep the heat in your rooms." And if you have
cavity walls, it's just as important to get them insulated
too. On average a third of all heat is lost this way - that's
over £100 a year going up in smoke!
"There are other benefits to saving energy too,"
Tracey explained. "A warm home is important for health,
especially in cold weather. So you'll notice a difference
to your wellbeing as well as to your pocket".
