Local Residents get help to stay warm with Coldbusters

19 January 2005

Insulation is essential to making any home affordable to heat and, by having your loft and cavity wall insulated, you can save up to £140 a year on your fuel bills. Furthermore, replacing an old, inefficient boiler with a new model can make running your heating 30% cheaper. These measures will make your home far easier to heat and keep you warmer for longer, which is also beneficial to your health and well-being

Steve King, the Private Sector Housing Manager from Canterbury City Council

Canterbury City Council has recently started a scheme to help residents stay warm through heating and insulation measures.

Known as Coldbusters and managed by the Kent Energy Centre, the scheme provides grants of up to £3,000 to help residents who are vulnerable to the cold keep warmer and healthier in their homes.

Coldbusters increases the comfort of your home by providing a comprehensive package of energy efficiency measures, including heating, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and draught proofing. In addition, if your central heating boiler has broken down, you may be able to get a replacement boiler. The total package could be worth up to £3,000.

Coldbusters is available to residents in Canterbury City Council area who are receiving one or more of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Disabled Person's Tax Credit
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit

This is a limited offer subject to available funding so if you are interested in finding out more about the Coldbusters scheme, and other energy efficiency schemes that could help, call the Kent Energy Centre on freephone 0800 358 6669. “
